Why give to Henshaws?
Henshaws, like most charities, relies on the support of individuals and organisations to fund its work. Many of our supporters have been with us for a long time because they recognise the difference that we make to blind and visually impaired people. Here you can read five great reasons why you should support our work.
Reason 1: Jack's story Jack was born with many serious health problems. His sight loss was nearly overlooked amongst everything else. Then his family found Henshaws Children & Family Service in Manchester, and they haven't looked back since.
Reason 2: Alison's story Alison had a promising career and a new life in London. Losing her sight threw her plans into chaos. She moved home to Newcastle and joined her local Skillstep course. Now she's rebuilding her life with a positive view of the future.
Reason 3: Debra's story D ebra was devastated when she lost her sight at 21. Then she found out about Henshaws College. After three years she had the skills and confidence to live a more independent life. She now creates and displays her artwork at Henshaws Arts & Crafts Centre.
Reason 4: Vera's story Vera is 76 had never used a computer in her life before she joined Henshaws IT training course in Merseyside. Now she can use email and word processing and is learning to shop online. It all helps her to stay up to date and retain her independence.
Reason 5: Denys's story Denys was an artist for most of his life, working in miniatures, so when his sight started to disappear he felt at a loss. Through Henshaws Patient Support Service at Manchester Eye Hospital he found out about support groups and activities at Henshaws Resource Centre, which have given him a new lease of life.
What's more...
Henshaws is LOCAL. We raise money in the North of England for projects in the North of England. You can be sure that your donation is supporting visually impaired people in your local community who need help, and our services develop as a direct result of listening to the needs of people in that local area. We may be smaller than some of the better known blind charities, but as a result we are better placed to deliver activities in our local communities.
Henshaws offers VALUE FOR MONEY. We keep our fundraising costs low by constantly reviewing our activities. We don't spend a penny more on fundraising or administration than we have to.
Henshaws is in it for the LONG TERM. We have been successfully working with blind and visually impaired people since 1837. We don't pick people up and then pass them on. We take a long term approach to working with our service users - we are there for them and for their families from birth right through to old age, whenever they need us.
Henshaws MAKES A DIFFERENCE. Read some of the case studies on this page to hear real stories about how Henshaws changes people's lives for the better. Every penny that you give helps us to help more people.
If you can help in any way, Henshaws fundraising team want to hear from you, today.
