Skillstep in Greater Manchester
Training courses to suit you, delivered in our fully accessible Greater Manchester Centre.
Skillstep to Success
A pre-vocational training programme which helps unemployed visually impaired adults develop the skills and confidence to reach their potential. The course is flexible and training is tailored to individual needs and goals. Participants develop their IT and work related skills, build confidence and self-esteem, improve their independence and gain access to information, guidance and work experience opportunities. This course is ideal for those wishing to progress onto employment, voluntary work or further training.
Skillstep is run in partnership with City College Manchester and accredited through Greater Manchester Open College Network.

Skillstep to Success has been generously funded in Greater Manchester by the Learning and Skills Council and the European Social Fund.

Skillstep Forward
Skillstep Forward is a development of the original Skillstep project which aims to assist people into employment or education by:
- setting up long term placements by breaking down some of the barriers to employment that visually impaired people face
- providing job tasters
- advising employers on how they may be able to support employees with a visual impairment
- giving individual support to people who have completed the Skillstep programme to move forward in meeting their goals.
This new project is generously funded by Barclays Bank.

Further training for Visually Impaired People
- City College Manchester IT class on Fridays
- Braille classes on Mondays for sighted and visually impaired learners
Skillstep Employer Training
This training offers local employers free advice and information on how to recruit and retain visually impaired staff. We can also support both the learner and the employer to facilitate short work experience placements within local businesses.
