Rehabilitation Service

Henshaws Rehabilitation work is at the heart of everything we do to enable blind and visually impaired people to lead independent lives.

Henshaws trained Rehabilitation Officers provide specialist mobility support, advice and training to Henshaws clients. They work with people on an individual basis, helping them to develop their mobility skills in areas such as route planning, use of a cane, travelling by public transport.

Henshaws has Rehabilitation staff in all its regions. They deliver Visual Impairment Awareness Training (VIAT) to every member of Henshaws staff as part of their induction. This covers information on a range of eye conditions, practical guiding skills, and an introduction to specialist aids and equipment.

Local organisations from schools to businesses can book VIAT training courses, where those organisations want to improve their ability to support visual impaired colleagues or pupils.

The Rehabilitation team also deliver contracts on behalf of some contracting bodies, supporting the wider VI population with high quality rehabilitation services.
