What benefits are available?
The main benefits available for people who are registered as blind or partially sighted include:
The Disabled Living Allowance (DLA) - available from Social Services - has two main components: a care component and a mobility component, which can be paid directly into your Bank Account.
Blind Person's Tax Allowance - available from the Tax Office - is a fixed amount of tax-free income added to your personal allowance. The amount of the blind person's allowance is the same for everyone who can claim it, whatever their age or their level of income.
