Mobile telephones

Where can I buy a mobile telephone?

Software exists which enables a standard mobile phone to be adapted for use by visually impaired people. These adaptations include: speech capability and enlarged text. Phones that have tactile, well-spaced buttons and a function that reads text messages aloud will probably be most useful.

The Owasys 22C is just one a range of 'talking' mobile phone solutions for blind and visually impaired users. This model allows the user to make and take phone calls and text SMS messages without the use of a visual display. This phone is available from the RNIB and other stockists.

However, most major retail outlets will now supply standard mobile phones that can be adapted using access technology. Contact you local high street store for more information.
