Looking after myself
Will I still be able to look after myself and my family?
Sight loss does not have to mean a loss of independence. Many day to day tasks can still be carried out independently, including cooking, cleaning and travelling. A range of aids and equipment exist to aid independent living, some of which are freely available from Social Services. These include items such as talking watches, liquid level indicators (to tell you when a cup is full), ironing guards, medicine dispensers and talking microwaves, jugs or scales. Henshaws stocks a range of these items at our Mersesyide and Greater Manchester Centres.
Henshaws' Rehabilitation Staff are available to provide guidance and support for you as you adapt to living with sight loss. Rehabilitation support is available through Social Services, who will tailor any help to suit your specific needs. So, for example, a person may need support and advice on applying make-up and how to match clothes.
